Volatility Factor

An interesting thing to look at relating to the volatility of the rising interest rate environment is that you have a set of investors, as well as professional individuals, that have never lived through an interest rate increase. We have had a modest expansion for around 9 years so it’s important to keep an eye on this generation that hasn’t experienced something like this before. This has been a factor that has added to the recent volatility.

China

The Chinese Communist Party is doing away with the two term limit on presidents. Current President Xi Jinping is coming up on his term limit. He is expected to become a permanent president. This is coming at a time when the Chinese Communist Party is essentially consolidating power while the U.S. are, in a way, challenging this power. The U.S. is going at China with steel and aluminum tariffs starting a trade war of sorts. This could have a big impact on our economy.

NAFTA

This week will mark the seventh round of NAFTA talks. We haven’t really seen any progress up to this point. We would like to see this progress pick up because it’s extremely important for trade manufacturing in our country. Also, something to keep an eye on are the retail corporate earnings coming out to see how the consumer is doing.
