#150: The Bear Market Impact On Your Portfolio

We are talking with a lot of clients about the volatility of the markets. Yet the media has come out saying that this is the best rally we have seen in a very long time. We believe we are still in a bear market.

What happens in a bear market?

In a bear market we usually have short and big rallies. When we are coming out of a bear market we see more stable and sustaining rallies. We are currently seeing big percentage rallies but not anything sustainable. These rallies are based on rumors much like what we have seen in the oil markets. Rumors from Russia, Iran, and OPEC have moved the oil market to rally up with falling numbers shortly after. We still don’t see oil prices going up any time soon.

Preparing for how Great Britain could affect your portfolio

Great Britain will vote on June 23rd whether or not to stay in the European Union. It’s not front page news now but it will be soon. This is big because even just the fear of Britain leaving the European Union would negatively impact our bond markets. This morning, this fear is already affecting currency markets. Even though this is not big news yet, we want to be prepared for it when it happens.

Preparing for how the Presidential election could impact on your portfolio

As the Presidential campaign narrows down to fewer candidates people will begin to dig deeper into their policies and plans. This is when the markets can start reacting to these candidates’ policies. We can expect more volatility as the election moves forward.
