#251 Finding Thanks in the Markets

We are thankful for the consumer. The consumer has been a workhorse for this economy this year. We have had good employment and higher wages thus leading to better confidence. In turn, this confidence has led to better retail sales. As we head into Friday and Monday, the biggest shopping days of the year, we can see that the consumer is showing strength. We need that for the economy and markets to continue being strong.

The Alabama election has been all throughout the news lately. We are thankful for the Senate’s urgency of making tax cuts stemming from the confusion the election has caused. The Senate doesn’t know who will be joining them on December 12th and this seems to have sped up the process of passing tax reform. We could see tax reform resolved by year end which could really help the consumer.

Corporate Earnings

We have talked throughout the year in our vlogs about corporate earnings. Corporate earnings have been very strong. We went through a period a few years ago where this wasn’t the case. We are thankful to see that coming back into focus. Also, we have seen an interest rate increase this year. We could possibly see another one coming in December so that will be important to watch.
