Trade War Talks
The U.S. and China have put a hold on trade war talks. In fact, China has agreed to import more U.S. goods. This year we have had great corporate earnings, a robust economy and a strong consumer. However, all the attention has been on the trade war talks. Hopefully, these discussions are starting to fade so we can get back to focusing on the fundamentals.
Global Economies
Many of the middle tier economies around, such as Indonesia, Turkey and other democratic countries, are collectively a big force in helping with global growth. This year, since interest rates have gone up, a lot of companies within those countries have been going to the debt markets to raise money. A majority of this activity has started to slow down. We are continuing to watch those countries and how they are reacting to rate changes.
European Central Bank
Later this week, the European Central Bank will be looking at a lot of data to answer why there was a more pronounced slowdown in the first quarter in Europe. They will be trying to determine if the problems were related more to weather issues or systemic growth. Thursday’s report should give more detail to whether this is the start of a long-term slope or just a one-off.
